Mühle Steinacker
The Steinacker is a development area in the City of
Kloten, ambiguously located between global connectivity (Zurich Airport) and local
affiliation. The area will be further developed: from a logistics and business district
to a multifunctional neighborhood for the multicultural residents of Kloten,
one of the major Airport Hubs in Europe.
The Mühle proposes new residential functions above a school and an existing factory hall. The maisonette apartments are reached via semipublic balcony accesses. The ‘red thread’, a public path through the building, provides visual continuity and connects the new tram station below with the adjacent neighborhood, located above. Along this path various indoor and outdoor community spaces are located.
